What We Need To Win
Economic empowerment for progressive Jewish movements in the US and Israel/Palestine
Dear friends,
The past few weeks I’ve been busy organizing a very exciting project that I’m thrilled to be inviting you to today.
Please join New Israel Fund NewGen for our summer web series, What We Need to Win: Economic empowerment for progressive Jewish movements in the US and Israel/Palestine.
We will kick it off with a star-studded first session on May 31st at 12pm ET, “Why intercommunal organizing requires values-aligned funding.”
This first conversation will feature: Sally Abed, national leader at Standing Together, the largest Jewish-Arab grassroots movement in Israel, and co-host of Groundwork podcast; Shifra Sered, deputy director of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ), a political home for many on the New York Jewish left; and moderator Scout Bratt, operations director at the Center for Jewish Nonviolence, which organizes diaspora Jews to participate in on-the-ground Palestinian-led nonviolent civil resistance to occupation, apartheid, and displacement.
Throughout this series — which is a joint venture by NIF, the Jewish Liberation Fund, and RiseUp Initiative — we will hear stories about our grantees’ work that reveal the incredible power-building initiatives taking place on the left in North America as well as Israel/Palestine.
We will also address the gaps these leaders sometimes feel between themselves and funders, and we hope to illustrate how we can do better to fund a future that we believe in.
Hope to see you all there!
Warmly,
Zak Witus
